Following a competitive national search, Insurance Business compiled and recently announced its Five-Star Insurance Innovators list, with Gallagher Bassett named and recognised for our innovative response to COVID-19.

When the pandemic hit, we knew it would be immediately felt by insurers and that an innovative response was needed to alleviate these pressures. John White, Partnership Manager – Gallagher Bassett, said the award recognised how our team treats innovation as a core competency.

“When the pandemic hit, we knew insurers could face an increase in claims or a change in claiming behaviour. We could see that the heavy demand for resourcing was also starting to impact the industry. With an overwhelming amount of change occurring in the industry, we wanted to keep our insurer partners up to date, so they could make effective decisions in a timely manner,” John said.

To help achieve this, we launched an extensive education and awareness campaign where solutions and insights into proactive approaches were shared, equipping insurers with tools they could carry throughout the pandemic. Drew Spilsbury, Global Vice President – Brand Strategy, Management & Growth at Gallagher Bassett, said data insights and customer research was essential to developing this solution.

“Basing our decisions on data, we implemented a strategy that helped convey accurate, informative answers to the critical questions insurers were facing from their staff and customers. This enabled insurers to find the opportunity to stand apart from the competition, access our cutting-edge technology and make decisions that had lasting, positive impacts on their bottom line,” Drew said.

“Innovation is more than a buzzword at GB, it is part of our heritage and is still alive in our DNA today. Being innovative is considered an everyday, critical part of our culture and our work. This is why we were really honoured to be named on Insurance Business’s Five-Star Insurance Innovators list for 2021, this is an award that each member of our team should be proud of.”

This award added another feather to our team’s cap, after a year where we were also recognised for our innovative “People First, Then Process” strategy and our interactive Poster Designer tool was awarded Insurance Industry Innovation of the Year at the recent ANZIIF awards. All three awards referenced GB's successful use of its communication strategies and tools to help clients respond to COVID-19.
